Years ago Vanessa and I vowed that once the kids were grown and gone we would not replace the pets as they left this world. We intended to move the city, buy a condo with no yard and go out to dinner and theater. We were down to one old cat when Vanessa stopped by the local animal shelter to get some information on a benefit art show. She came home with a blue-eyed redhead pup that we called Abby. Abby is an Australian Shepherd mix and she was full of spunk, endless energy and attitude and became one of the loves of my life. Obedience training was a must and the classes were held at a sheep farm and the trainer's advice was to get some sheep and give her a job.
We gave up our dream of a condo, sold our 3 acre place and bought a 12 acre farm. To keep Abby busy we bought 5 Dorset ewe lambs, 2 Kathadin ewes and a Dorper ram. We were looking for a llama to guard the flock and came home with a percentage Boer goat instead. That was our start, we are now on a 193 acre farm, the Dorset's have gone and been replaced with Dorper and Dorper cross sheep and we have added several Fullblood Boer Goat Bucks and Does as well as more percentage Does to the mix.
I am a pharmacist/goat farmer/artist; Vanessa is known locally as "the goat lady" and takes care of the daily livestock chores. Along with Abby (who has now decided that if you want those goat and sheep moved do it yourself) we have added a Border Collie named Candy.
We are located in Southeast Missouri between West Plains and Poplar Bluff, just south of Ellington and very close to the Current River. We do enjoy visiting so if you are in the area please give us a call and see if we are home. We would love to show you our Boer goats for sale and our Sheep for sale.
